The McMaster Investment Council started as the “MacIC” in 2008, after a small group of DeGroote Commerce students united over their passion for investment and the finance world. Shortly thereafter, the group was able to operate and invest through student funds raised.
Over the years, a strong Alumni foundation has been established, allowing current members to network and build relationships with previous members and current industry professionals.
The MacIC currently manages a mock portfolio, staying true to its mandate of providing students with the opportunity to learn about fundamental investment techniques and the capital markets, while applying these skills outside of a classroom setting through applied learning experiences.
We seek to connect passionate students, alumni, and employers. We provide valuable networking opportunities, and enable learning through applied investing, education, and business experience.
Over the foreseeable future we aim to outperform the broader equity markets to establish ourselves as capable money management professionals. Through a consistent and impressive return record coupled with a deep value philosophy, we will be looking for funding in the near future. Our long-term goal is to actively manage an endowment fund for McMaster University to provide value to the greater community and a more meaningful experience for students.
